“Bodegas López de Heredia is one of the wine world’s great wine treasures.”
– Berry Bros. & Rudd
“I have adored, indeed occasionally worshipped, the wines of Lopez de Heredia for many years, so I am not ashamed to admit that visiting both their vineyard and their winery was a pilgrimage.”
– Neal Martin, The Wine Advocate
Join us for our second ‘A Seat in the Cellar’ event for a very special tasting of the iconic Bodegas Lopez de Heredia in Rioja.
This historic estate was founded in 1877 and is considered one of the foundation stones of modern day Rioja. The wines from this staunchly traditional winemaker have acquired an unsurpassed reputation for quality and ageability over the years. Indeed, today their Gran Reserva wines are seldom seen in the marketplace, let alone this far away from their home, making this a truly unique experience to taste historic bottles direct from the Bodegas.
Lopez de Heredia has developed a cult-like following for their supremely complex and ageworthy wines, and not just their reds… as we will see, their stunning white and rosé wines can be breathtaking with age. Our tasting will be focused sharply on the wines from their largest and most famous vineyard, the magnificent Tondonia, while exploring the history of the estate as well as their vinification and long élevage techniques.
This will be a fascinating snapshot into one of the world’s greatest and steadfastly traditional winemakers, and we will have a selection of wines from the Bodegas for sale on the evening.
The wines on tasting will be as follows:
Viña Tondonia White Reserva 2011
Viña Tondonia White Gran Reserva 1964
Viña Tondonia Rosado Gran Reserva 2012
Viña Tondonia Reserva 2010
Viña Tondonia Reserva 2001
Viña Tondonia Gran Reserva 1973
Viña Tondonia Gran Reserva 1964
