From COS, one of Sicily’s true benchmark producers, who are certified organic and farm biodynamically. They emphasise wines of purity and freshness, rely exclusively on indigenous yeasts and eschew any overt oak influence.

Hand harvested from vines averaging 15 years of age, COS’s Frappato, spends 9 months in neutral vats, followed by 3 months in bottle before release. As with most of COS’s wines, the emphasis here is on freshness and the bright expression of grape and terroir. As with other leading Frappatos, this wine starts with red-fruits and evolves with floral, smoky, herbal notes. This is a wine far more complex than its pale appearance might indicate. Intriguing.

The 2020 Frappato is a vibrant pinkish red color with a vivid bouquet of rose hips, wild strawberries and wet stone. It’s soft and pliant, casting mineral-tinged red fruits and savory herbal tones across the palate. There’s a bit of a green streak that follows from nose to finish, as the 2020 tapers off long, with cheek-puckering tension under an air of red inner florals.
