Eleni et Edouard Vocoret Chablis ‘Bas de Chapelot’ 2022

“Le Bas translates to below and this plot borders with the bottom of the 1er Cru of Chapelot, part of the Montee de Tonnerre hill, just a few yards away to the north sits Le Clos Grand Cru. The quality of this spot as a ‘village wine’ is outstanding. South East exposition. Deeper soil than the 1er Cru of Chapelot so gives more richness (Clay, Limestone, and Kimmeridgian). 3.2 ha, 40 years old. Wild Fermented in steel then elevage in barrel for 12 months of 6 to 30 year old barriques.” – Importer’s note

“The 2022 Chablis Le Bas de Chapelot underwent partial tressage in the vineyard this year, so the Vocorets could compare. They found the fruit ripened earlier with more intense aromas. These will be bottled separately. It has a lovely peachy, nectarine-tinged bouquet that blossoms in the glass. The palate is well balanced with touches of grapefruit and white peach. It is very elegant and pure, with a touch of spice towards the finish. Simply a mouthwatering prospect – difficult to believe this is not a Premier Cru.”
