Gaja Masterclass – South Melbourne

Gaja is widely considered one of the world’s most respected and influential wine makers. Founded in 1859 in Piedmont, the family’s impact on wine production in Italy over the decades is awe-inspiring and cannot be underestimated. Indeed they are credited for contributing significantly to the revoltuon in quality that has occurred in Italy in the last 50 years. Forging a name and becoming a benchmark for wines from Piedmonte, they now use their expertise to craft wines in other iconic appellations of Italy: Bolgheri, Brundello di Montalcino and Mount Etna.

Please join us and host Michael Hegarty from importer Franc About Wine, as we provide a snapshot of the Gaja properties through a selection of wines from each. This will be a unique opportunity to learn about the Gaja familiy’s approach to winemaking, the expansion of their business into other regions and why they did this, and of course each individual property – Idda (Sicily), Ca’ Marcanda (Bolgheri) Pieve Santa Restituta (Brunello di Montalcino) and Gaja (Barbaresco)

For lovers of Italian wine and those with a passing interest in the history of Italian wine, this is a don’t miss event!
