  • An absolute classic Cornas
  • Made by Northern Rhône icon Michel Chapoutier
  • Intense, powerful, ageworthy

‘Part of the vineyard is located on decomposing granite, known locally as “gore”, the other is on alluvial clay-limestone soil. This kind of soil produces powerful, meaty wines with good tannin. This type of granite also gives the wine power and a nice taut acidity. Vinification is carried out in the traditional way, the harvest is destemmed. Fermentation lasts about 10 days and is followed by an around three-week maceration. After vinification, the ageing process starts and lasts 14-16 months. 80% of the wine goes into oak barrels (100% French). The remaining 20% are aged in concrete tanks, which preserves the fruit and minerality expressed on these granitic soils.’ – Producer’s note

‘A blend of several different parcels, including a portion of Reynard, the 2016 Cornas les Arênes is aging in 80% oak, 25% of which is new. It’s a fine example of Cornas, with crushed stone aromas and firm structure, then loosens up a bit on the ripe, mocha-tinged finish. 2022-2030″ – Robert Park, Wine Advocate ‘A blend of several different parcels, including a portion of Reynard, the 2016 Cornas les Arênes is aging in 80% oak, 25% of which is new.
