Stargazer Chardonnay 2019

In stock

  • Chablis-esque Chardonnay from Tasmania's Derwent Valley
  • White nectarine and lemon curd notes supported by subtle spicy oak
  • Hand-harvested from 20 year old vines. Fewer than 4000 bottles produced!

‘Sourced from a grower in the Upper Derwent Valley. 2018 was one of Tasmania’s warmest growing seasons, much welcomed by most due to the apparent mild and windy weather in Nov/Dec/Jan. Hand picked, whole bunch pressed to oak for fermentation. Wild ferment in 500ltr French oak, 30% new. 25% of the overall blend went through Malolactic. No lees stirring, left in barrel for 8 months. Of all the white wines I enjoyed this wine the most on tasting, perhaps because she is a big fan as we are of Chablis.’ – Distributor’s note

Mike Bennie

‘This is a ripper. Has that delicious mix of light nutty, savoury with lemon on green apple, glass shard texture, bright and all grapefruit pithy mouth-watering. Licks of nougat over all that, a shake of oak seasoning that builds through the finish of the wine. That slick that closes is the quibble, the rest of the wine does a terrific thing in scent, taste, weight, texture. Feels fresh and cool, detailed and interesting. Nice nice.’ – Mike Bennie, The Wine Front
