Terre a Terre Masterclass – South Melbourne

Situated just north of Coonawarra is the oft-glossed over region of Wrattonbully, a small but remarkable hub of quality grape growing and winemaking. It’s laden with deep red ‘terra rossa’ soils beneath which lie fossil-filled limestone caves that lend remarkable character to the vines grown above them. 20 years ago Xavier & Lucy Bizot prowled the area in search of the ideal vineyard to establish themselves and make high quality claret wines. They settled on the Crayeres Vineyard, one which exemplifies the uniqueness of the Wrattonbully region, though with the addition of a unique section of eolian sandy soils, perfect for growing sauvignon blanc.

Since founding this remarkable site they’ve consistently produced a number of high quality wines under their Terre a Terre label, as well as one of Australia’s great sparkling wines from the Picadilly Valley, this one under their DAOSA label. The wines are, as said, highly consistent year in year out and have demonstrated a propensity for aging gracefully.

We’re thrilled to have Xavier himself here at Le Pont to host an in-depth Masterclass focused around the history and longevity of this wonderful Crayeres vineyard. The class will see him take you through multiple brackets, each one exploring the ageability of his wines, all the while elucidating what makes the vineyard so distinct within the Australian wine landscape.
