Thierry Mortet Gevrey-Chambertin 2021

Thierry Mortet, unlike his well-known brother Denis, remains under the radar for many Burgundy lovers and the wines could be considered an insiders secret. Prices are modest compared to many of his peers, but this should not detract from the excellent quality that can be found at this address.

The wines are pure, elegant and classically-styled and although less sumptuous than that of his brother, they do not want for flavour or detail and reflect their respective terroirs admirably. This less is more approach holds the Domaine in good stead with the ongoing run of warmer vintages, where some wines are struggling to maintain freshness and transparency.

Sourced from up to 20 different village plots and vines ranging from 15-60 years old, all grapes are destemmed which comes through in the beautifully detailed aromatics. Very much Gevrey-Chambertin, the palate is full, round and has excellent fruit weight but is not heavy or cumbersome, rather very harmonious and balanced. Excellent village Burgundy.
