"Neil – I need a dozen bottles of Grand Cru white Burgundy right away!"

That’s pretty much where it all started, some years ago now. A simple request but one that still has a lot of pertinence to the ethos behind Le Pont today. Rob (Le Pont Wine Stores) has never forgotten the predicament he was in when one of his best (and very famous) clients of his previous store presented this challenge late one Friday evening.Several contacts were frantically phoned but perhaps unsurprisingly no one responded.... Except one.
Enter Neil, director and creative cohort behind wholesaler Franc About Wine that had at the time been in business only …. years and was (still is) the importer of the Burgundy micro-negociant Lucien Le Moine. Definitely not an easy request at 7pm on a Friday evening, however, within 1 hour 12 bottles of beautifully packaged Lucien Le Moine Corton Blanc were delivered to a very appreciative Rob and customer, just in a knick of time!
“Rob, what does a retail manager earn today?” asked Neil as he was hopping back into his van. “Why do you ask?” replied Rob. “We’re opening a retail store in Milsons Point.” And that was that.
Le Pont therefore was borne from a passion for both fine wine and retail plus the desire to provide a great shopping experience, great product knowledge, and customer service.
The wine range in each store is broad and eclectic – but not for the sake of being so. It nod’s to the great regions of France, however you’ll find Australia, Italy, New Zealand, Spain, The US and South America are all well represented. Above all, our wines hopefully leave you wanting another glass and they’re interesting to drink. You’ll also find a broad selection of beer, spirits at each of the stores.
Today we have two stores in Sydney and one in Melbourne staffed by some of the most passionate people in the business. You can learn more about each store and the people here.
Each store conducts a regular event programme which since our inception become a feather in the Le Pont cap. They are a great way to learn more about wine, from both us and our partners and give us the opportunity to share our knowledge and experiences with our customers.
In short, we like to think we go above and beyond to give our customers a great experience either when they visit us in store, at one of our events and even online.
