Alsace stands as one of France’s most distinctive and intellectually compelling wine regions today. Revered for its evocative expressions of terroir, Alsace combines ancient vineyards, complex geology and a fiercely independent winemaking culture to produce wines of remarkable purity and longevity. From bone-dry, chiselled Riesling to opulent Vendange Tardive bottlings, the region’s noble varieties – Riesling, Gewurztraminer, Pinot Gris and Muscat – achieve a level of precision and transparency that few regions in the world can rival.
This masterclass will explore the breadth and nuance of Alsace through a curated selection of benchmark producers and sites, examining the role of Grand Cru vineyards, soil diversity (granite, limestone, sandstone and volcanic influences), vine age and evolving approaches to viticulture – including organic and biodynamic philosophies that now shape much of the region. We will discuss ageing potential and the stylistic signatures that differentiate villages and growers, while tasting wines that range from taut and mineral to richly textured and profound.
What’s more, the finest wines of Alsace are among the most gastronomically versatile and age-worthy in France, often offering extraordinary value relative to their pedigree. All this and more will be explored over the course of the evening — we hope you can join us!
