Riesling: Is the worm turning? A fantastic showing of Weingut Künstler

Riesling: Is the worm turning? A fantastic showing of Weingut Künstler

For as long as we can remember Riesling has been making a comeback in popularity. Despite the ever-abundant variety available in Australia, the ever-increasing divergence in local styles and the seemingly endless great reviews top riesling gets, demand was and still is, well, ho-hum. Other grape varieties, both established and new, seem to have circumvented riesling like it was a Paddington roundabout.

So it was great to see the overwhelmingly positive reaction from our learned attendees that some (truly) great riesling received when we showed them at our Künstler Masterclass at Milsons Point recently. Make no mistake these are likely some of the great dry white wines being made anywhere today, so perhaps it would be more surprising if they hadn't been well received....but they are expensive in the context of riesling, but maybe not when comparing to some other great wines of the world.

Even in their home region of the Rheingau, Künstler seemingly achieve a balance of concentration, dry extract, acidity and complexity that set them apart from their peers.
